GUILDERLAND — Two town golf-course employees resigned and their supervisor was demoted, in the wake of a state comptroller’s audit of town of Guilderland employee compensation and benefits. The comptroller’s report, issued this month, covered the period from Jan. 1, 2014 to Jan. 31, 2015.

After a plumber took his money and was later arrested, a 93-year-old and his son have struggled get questions answered, like how they can get the money back.

“During that time, you’re on your own,” said Captain Daniel McNally of the Guilderland Police.

He was referring to the minutes between a 9-1-1 call and the arrival of police. The national average is said to be three minutes, he said, “but I would argue it’s more than that.”

Jianwei Zhang, a Guilderland parent who works at the University at Albany, introduced inquiry-based science instruction to the elementary school where students learn by collaboration.

A quick-thinking student helped when his school bus driver fell ill and the bus meandered off the road.

“I’m happy to have other people face the difficult decisions we face,” said school board member Christopher McManus of the unpleasant choices that must be faced to close budget gaps.

WESTMERE — Planners who have been working on a vision for the future of the Westmere corridor — which stretches from Route 155 in the west to Church Road in the east, connecting 20 Mall with Crossgates and Stuyvesant Plaza — will share their vision and ask for community input at an open-house meeting on Thursday, Feb. 11.

GUILDERLAND — As the community rallies to raise funds for the seven extended family members who lost their McKownville home to fire last week, five of the six who were injured in the fire are improving.

ALTAMONT — Kimberley A. Egloff, a woman with an infectious laugh, died on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, in Johnstown. She was 56.

Her only child, daughter Shannon Egloff, recalls her as a very open and welcoming person, and as a “great” mother, who “loved spending time with me and doing activities with me.”
