ALTAMONT — A gaggle of 4-H kids tend to their goats early Tuesday morning. The gates have not officially opened for the first day of the Altamont Fair, and a steady rain falls outside, making the muddied roadways even slicker.

A bathroom vendor with the gift of gab doesn’t take rejection personally.

Farm animals and pageant participants weren’t the only ones taking home first prizes at the Altamont Fair on Tuesday.

ALTAMONT — Several games of old-fashioned fun for kids at the fair are free, or close to it.

On the opening day of the Altamont Fair, 27 young women, ages 5-40, compete in the Miss Altamont Fair pageant for the fair week and other community events through out the year.

GUILDERLAND — Kelly Stang of Guilderland, the New York State Department of Conservation wildlife biologist who launched and ran a state program introducing thousands of women and girls over the years to outdoor adventures, was promoted last month to oversee the DEC’s hunter-education program.

The Guilderland Letterman Golf Classic was held last Friday at Orchard Creek Golf Course for their annual fundraiser.

It was the 9th Annual National Night Out put on by the Guilderland Police Department as they hosted the event, at Tawasentha Park on Tuesday evening, in efforts to bring the community together.

Every Sunday starting in August that goes through September, a farmers market will be held being Star Plaza in Guilderland from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
