The flag with the Southern Cross was rarely used during the decades following the Civil War. It was revived only during the Civil Rights era to oppose the movement toward equality. As such, it is less a symbol of Southern heritage than it is of white supremacy.

By offering environmentally problematic properties through a sealed-bid auction, Albany County hopes to avoid charges that it is unfairly picking people to convey properties to.

GUILDERLAND CENTER — For more than 35 years, Mary Lou Quay Sapio did laundry for Guilderland Center nursing-home residents. She died on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at her home, after a short illness. She was 64.

Daughter of the late William Quay Sr. and Rachel Helligas Quay, she was a 1973 graduate of Guilderland High School.

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospitals, said Deputy Chief Curtis Cox of the Guilderland Police.
