Ethel Gemlick

GUILDERLAND — Ethel Gemlick, a homemaker who tended the family garden and preserved enough food to last for the next year, died peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2020. She was 100.

She was born on Dec. 9, 1919, the oldest daughter of the late Ethel and Jacob Dolder. She married her husband, Stanley Gemlick, in 1941.

Nancy M. Wright

ALTAMONT — Nancy M. (née Fischer) Wright was a loving mother and grandmother as well as a nurse and an emergency medical technician.

She died after a long battle with extraskeletal osteosarcoma on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at St Peter’s Hospice Inn surrounded by her loving family. She was 72.

At its June 24 meeting, the Guilderland Planning Board was asked by the town board to “make a decision on what improvements, if any, will be required at the Church Road/Western Avenue intersection and Church Road/Great Oaks Boulevard entrance.”

GUILDERLAND — Gladys Kniskern O’Brien, a quiet and steadfast woman, was a student in a one-room rural schoolhouse who went on to be valedictorian of her high school and won a scholarship to Syracuse University, leading to her career as a teacher of Spanish and Latin.

She died on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. She was 90.

GUILDERLAND — Guilderland and neighboring communities have experienced an uptick in thefts from unlocked motor vehicles during overnight hours, according to a notice from the Guilderland Police.

With mail-in ballots, Guilderland had triple the votes usual for its school and library elections — yet both budgets passed by wide margins.
