Digging out: Dave Cowan clears snow from his plow truck, parked on a near-vacant Maple Avenue in Altamont on Friday afternoon as heavy, wet snow continues to fall. “Snow has caused white-out conditions in some areas and its heavy weight has downed trees and caused power outages,” said Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy. National Grid customers who have lost power are urged to call 800 465-1212  or to go online http://ngrid.com/1f0yeOf. National Grid says, “The harsh weather conditions are expected to last into Saturday morning, bringing the potential for further outages,” and reminds people not to touch downed wires. As of 6:30 p.m. on Friday, 363,000 households across the state were without power — with 4,179 of those in Albany County, according to the governor's office.
