Roads are largely empty in Altamont on Friday afternoon as heavy snow continues to pile up in Albany County. County Executive Daniel McCoy has urged people to stay off the roads to allow plow operators to clear the lanes and to be safe. Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued a travel advisory for all areas north of New York City requesting limited travel due to dangerous conditions on roadways in most of upstate New York. The city of Albany has declared a snow emergency, beginning at 8 a.m. on March 3, in order to clear the roads.
