Learn Basic Winter Skills. All ages are invited to join David Muska of Ondatra Adventures from 10 am to 1 pm for an introduction to the fundamentals of tracking and the stories animals leave behind. As a licensed NYS Wilderness Guide and Wilderness Skills Instructor, David works with youth and adults in the world of 'primitive' skills and 'nature connection' through Troy-based Ondatra Adventures. The class will begin indoors and move outside to the trails.

Younus Samadzada, who was born in Kabul in 1948, will speak on the changes in the character of religion and culture in Afghanistan over the last few decades. The region has a long history of being open to many diverse religions: both Sunni and Shia Muslims, Zoroastrians, Sikhs, Hindus, Jews, Roman Catholics, and Buddhists. Very few adherents to these religions remain. By the 1950s, the dominant religion had become Sunni Muslim. In recent years, the government and warring factions have instituted strict adherence.
Representatives from state historic sites and cultural institutions will provide educational hands-on activities, unique artifacts to explore, and information about upcoming events during the annual “New York State’s Great Places and Spaces” program from noon to 4 p.m. at the New York State Museum.
