NEW SCOTLAND — Firefighters helped rescue animals from a burning barn last Wednesday with the temperature well below freezing.

Altamont has a new restaurant; Village Pizza has opened on the site of the old village butcher shop.

At its reorganizational meeting on Monday, Jan.1, the New Scotland Town Board welcomed new member Daniel Leinung, who takes over for Laura Ten Eyck; named two new members to the planning board; and made a number of appointments.

New Scotland Town Clerk Diane Deschenes said that she has collected over a million dollars towards 2018 taxes, as residents prepaid part of their property tax bill in the hope of avoiding paying more under the new GOP tax law.
 

Nazzerine Donato suffered severe burns to his upper body and face, according to a release from the Albany County Sheriff’s Department.

The biggest change to the federal tax code in over a generation has left many unclear about what the local implications may be.   

A long discussion of what has always been done versus what actually has to be done consumed a large part of the Dec. 13 New Scotland Town Board Meeting. Members also said goodbye to Councilmember Laura Ten Eyck.

At its Dec. 13 meeting, the New Scotland Town Board dealt with a long-running issue.

Under a program from National Grid, the villages of Altamont and Voorheesville as well as the town of New Scotland could see significant savings for street lighting.

Bob Burns, a friend of Robert Baron who resigned as Voorheesville girls’ varsity basketball coach, came to the December school board meeting to defend the coach’s legacy.
