MOREAU, N.Y. — Valerie A. Ungerer, who spent her life caring for others, died on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2025, two weeks after being diagnosed with biliary and pancreatic cancer. She was 81.

She was born in Kew Gardens, New York on Jan. 31, 1944, to Evelyn M. (née Birk) and Harold W. Kinney.

DUANESBURG — Delwin C. Shaver Jr. of Duanesburg, a truck driver who loved farming, hunting, and fishing, died unexpectedly in a motor-vehicle collision on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025. He was 58.

SLINGERLANDS — Richard N. Rodino, a restaurateur, died on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025, in his Slingerlands home surrounded by his loving family. He was 69.

Born on Sept. 29, 1955 in Troy, he was the son of the late Amedeo and Anna Rose Carlotti Rodino and the beloved husband of Lori Bernard Rodino.

Dorance A. “Bud” Mercer of Albany, a proud Army veteran and truck mechanic, died peacefully in the Schenectady Center Rehabilitation Center in Schenectady on Saturday, Aug. 30. 

He was the son of the late Maurice and Marion Barrett Mercer and the beloved husband of the late Edna Mercer.

VOORHEESVILLE — Mary Jean “Jean” Healey of Voorheesville, a physical-education teacher and sports referee, died on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025. She was 90.

ROTTERDAM — Ruth S. Dexter, a strong woman who loved and supported her family, died peacefully in her Rotterdam home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025. She was 90.

ALBANY — Barbara J. Klein, who had a career with the state’s education department, was known for the activities she arranged for Warners Lake.

She died peacefully on Friday, Sept. 19, 2025. She was 79.

WESTERLO — “Maureen Hoey Duffy, 74, entered Eternal Life on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025 at home,” her family wrote in a tribute.

She was born on April 11, 1951, and grew up in Maspeth, Queens, New York. Thomas Hoey, who was born in Co. Leitrim, Ireland, and Mary Kelly Hoey, who was born in County Mayo, Ireland, were her parents.

ALTMONT — Daniel F. Joy, a Vietnam veteran, loved his country and his family.

He was born on Oct. 4, 1952, in Niskayuna, and died on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025, at the age of 72.

Mrs. Helen K. Bensen, who raised her family in Rensselaerville where she and her husband worked on their dairy farm, died peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025, in Tennessee where she had lived for 49 years. She was 96.

ALTAMONT — Cassidy Zyskowski died peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 33.

Richard Rapp

WESTERLO — Richard “Dick” Rapp died peacefully on Monday, Sept. 1, 2025. He was 87.

He was born on Nov. 26. 1937, in Albany, son of the late Herman and Ethel (née Manchester) Rapp. He graduated from Berne-Knox-Westerlo in 1956.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — “Linda Stempel Gicewicz left this world suddenly in the early hours of Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025,” her family wrote in a tribute. “She was 66 years young.
