Leonard Friebel

GUILDERLAND — Leonard Friebel, a father and grandfather who served in the Navy and supported veterans, died on Monday, Feb. 21, 2022.

He was 73.He was born in Schenectady on Nov. 22, 1948, the son of the late Robert Friebel and Marjorie and “Bud” Geier.

Lewis ‘George’ Wisler

BERNE — Lewis “George” Wisler died on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, at his Berne home surrounded by his family. He was 64.
He was born on Dec. 11, 1957 to Lewis and Joan (née Kelly) Wisler in La Mesa, California.

 

GUILDERLAND — Bernice Shultes Bunzey, formerly of Berne, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at the Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland. She was 98.

KNOX — Robert H. Moons, an outdoorsman who grew his own garlic and made his own maple syrup, died on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, in Albany. He was 87.

He was the son of Adrian and Elizabeth (née Poling) Moons. His wife, Joyce Moons, died before him.

Pamela J. Porter

BERNE — Pamela J. Porter, a devoted wife and mother and an adoring grandmother, died peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022. She was 67.

William J. Smith III

ALTAMONT — William J. Smith III was a hardworking man who held many jobs over the years to provide for his wife and son. “Family came first,” said his son, William James Smith IV.
Mr. Smith “went home to be with his Heavenly Father” on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, his family wrote in a tribute.  He was 88.

Gary Willsie

EAST BERNE — Gary G. Willsie, known for his kindness and love of life, died at home on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022. He was 66.
He was born on May 3, 1955, to Glen and Shirley Willsie and spent many years working on the family farm.

DELMAR — Milton J. Hart Jr., a World War II veteran and devoted family man, was the longtime owner of the Agway in Berne.

He died peacefully on Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, the day after his 96th birthday.

WESTERLO — Everett J. “Jim” Crawford died on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, holding the hands of his children. He was 64.

Born in Lansing, Michigan, he was the son of the late Gene and Mark Crawford.

Harold ‘Hal’ Grant

ALTAMONT — Harold “Hal” Grant, a longtime resident of Altamont, was a World War II veteran and the glue of his family. He died on Monday, Jan. 24, 2022, at the age of 95.

Son of the late Chester and Evelyn DuMond-Grant, he was the beloved husband of Beryl N. Grant.

MEDUSA — Zena B. Higgins — a wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed being with her family — died on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, at St. Peter’s Hospital. She was 58.

She was born in Catskill on July 25, 1963 to the late Gordon and Ruth Waldron Shaver. She was raised in Westerlo and graduated from Greenville Central School.

VOORHEESVILLE — Virginia (née Rauch) Rapant died at home on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021, after struggling three years with ovarian cancer and its side effects. She was 70.
