GUILDERLAND — Leonard Friebel, a father and grandfather who served in the Navy and supported veterans, died on Monday, Feb. 21, 2022.

He was 73.He was born in Schenectady on Nov. 22, 1948, the son of the late Robert Friebel and Marjorie and “Bud” Geier.

He graduated from Guilderland High School, enlisted in the Navy, and after discharge worked at the Watervliet Arsenal.

“Lenny was an active member of the Elks and supported all veterans organizations,” his family wrote in a tribute.

He is survived by his children, Leonard II, Jessica Carlotti and her husband, Ryan, and Jeff DeCenzo, and by his grandchildren, Ariana, Ryan, Myla, Paige, and Cameron.

He is also survived by his siblings, Sharon Hext and her husband, Jerry, Colleen Geier, David Friebel and his wife, Lynne, and Bill Dumas, and by his sister-in-law, Darcijean Sprague, as well as by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

His parents died before him, as did his brother (and best friend) Robert Friebel.

A private interment will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Salem and a Celebration of Life ceremony will be held in the spring.

His family thanks “the staff at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center in Troy for the tender, loving care they provided for Lenny and his family, Community Hospice for their guidance and support, and Capital District Affordable Cremation for making this difficult time a little easier.”
