William A. Fischer

WESTERLO — William Anthony Fischer, a polymath who wove his technical expertise together with creative sensibilities as a luthier, among other pursuits, died at home on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021. He was 59. 

GUILDERLAND — Lillian Mae Bellinger came into this world on Sept. 22, 1929, and left it the same day, 92 years later.

Donald Harrison Paul, who was raised in the Helderbergers and worked in construction and as a farmer, served during World War II, when he was wounded at Utah Beach during the last Normandy landing.

He died in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where he had lived at the end of his life, on Jan. 6 , 2021. He was 97.

EAST BERNE — LeRoy Wellington Schoonmaker Jr. — an Army veteran and mechanic who, with his wife, raised five children — died peacefully Friday, Sept. 24, 2021. He was 82.

Known as “Sonny,” he was born in West Berne, New York on June 15, 1939 to the late LeRoy Wellington Schoonmaker Sr. and Ina (née Cook) Schoonmaker.

Cheryl Schmidt

HILLTOWNS — Cheryl (née Swint) Schmidt “entered into eternal peace on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021, at the age of 72,” her family wrote in a tribute.

Elaine S. Zimmer

SCHENECTADY — Elaine S. Zimmer taught home economics while raising her two children and, with her husband, traveled to five continents and all 50 states.

She died peacefully, with her family by her side, on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021, at Ingersoll Place. She was 92.

Guy William Lindemann

MIDDLEBURGH — Guy William Lindemann, of Huntersland, died on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at his home “on the hill,” where his family has lived for five generations. He was 68.

John A. ‘Jack’ McCullen

ALTAMONT — “John ‘Jack’ Anthony McCullen of Altamont joined his devoted wife Edna in everlasting peace and love on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021,” his family wrote in a tribute. He was 90.

Robert Haas, life-long resident of Knox, died suddenly on Monday, Sept. 13, 2021. He was 73.

He will be missed and remembered. Services will be private.

Rest in peace, Dad.

ALTAMONT — Richard Frank Fonda — a farmer; a veteran; a welder; a printer; a carpenter; and most of all, a family man — died on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021. He was 96.

ALTAMONT — Gloria Chardeen, a mother and grandmother who had worked as a Guilderland school secretary, died peacefully at home in Altamont on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021. She was 80.

She was born in Albany to Henry and Edna Bink on Oct. 10, 1940.

Mrs. Chardeen was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Delmar.

Roger T. Chapman

KNOX — Roger T. Chapman was loved by his family, and he especially enjoyed sharing his love of  John Deere tractors and many of his other interests with family and friends. He died on Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, after a  short illness. He was 81 years old.

Newt Ronan

The family of Newton Ronan would like to invite his friends and loved ones to a celebration of his life at Altamont Reformed Church at 129 Lincoln Ave. at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021. As Dad wished, there will be singing, so if you’re vaccinated masks are optional. All unvaccinated people are required to be masked. 

John J. Schoenlein

John J. Schoenlein, an Army veteran, died unexpectedly at his home in Cameron, North Carolina on Saturday Sept. 4, 2021 at the age of 87.

He was born on May 25, 1934 in Franklin Square, in Nassau County, New York to the late John Schoenlein and Elsie Beinhaur Schoenlein.
