NEW SCOTLAND — Arthur Charles Hamilton, a decorated World War II veteran who served on Landing Ship, Tank (LST) 980 during D-Day, continued to serve his country and community after he left the Navy.

EAST BERNE — Dorothy L. Dibble, the mother of three sons, died on Friday, May 24, 2019. She was 80.

She was born in Albany on June 5, 1938 to the late Frank and Ella (née Warner) Tallman.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Dennis Flagler was a “happy, outgoing” man, who would “always greet you with a smile,” said his sister, Debra Flagler.

Dennis Walter Flagler died on Monday, May 6, 2019. He was 71.

GUILDERLAND — Bernice Carol (née Abare) Hauser of Guilderland, a devoted mother who was also devoted to her country, went to clown school so she could entertain veterans.

She died peacefully Saturday, May 18, 2019 at her residence with her family by her side following a short illness. She was 82.

James V. Canavan

ALTAMONT — James V. Canavan, a leader throughout his school years in Altamont, Guilderland, and college in Vermont, went on to become an Air Force captain, then raised a family and had a career working for Mohasco Industries.

He died peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2019 in Lebanon, Tennessee. He was 81.

ALTAMONT — Rev. Hilton’s son and daughter both said their father was more like Jesus than any person they knew.

As the pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Altamont for 29 years, he shepherded his flock through the worst and best times of their lives.

“He never had to write over,” said his wife of more than 61 years, Fran Arthur. “He was an extremely bright man; there was not a thing he did not know. He was well read, well-versed in the classics.”

ALTAMONT — Neil A. Taber, a man whose capacity to serve his community was seemingly endless, died on Sunday, May 5. He was 92.

Mr. Taber was born on April 9, 1927, to Albertus and Edith Taber; his father was a mason and his mother was a homemaker. He grew up in Knox, one of seven boys.

EAST BERNE — James and Ruth Geier Roemer, a devoted couple, married for 75 years, both died last January. On May 18, their lives will be celebrated together.

QUEENSBURY — Jeanette W. Holmberg of Queensbury, New York left behind a legacy of love and family, her daughter said. She died on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at Glens Falls Hospital. She was 94.

ALBANY — Eileen J. Callahan was a dedicated school teacher and a devout Catholic. She served for many years as president of Thompsons Lake Improvement Association.

William Howard Moore

RENSSELAERVILLE — William Howard Moore lived most of his life in Medusa. His son, Dennison, called him “a man of the community.”

He created a museum to preserve Medusa’s history, wrote a column about the hamlet’s happenings, played the organ in its church, and served in its volunteer fire company.

MEDUSA — A memorial service will be held for William Howard Moore on Saturday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at the Medusa United Church of Christ on Route 351. After the service, the family will go to the Medusa Cemetery for a short burial service and then return to the house for food and refreshments.

GUILDERLAND — Cheryl Ann Stilsing — recalled as a loving mother, cherished grandmother, and dearest sister — died on Sunday, April 28, 2019, with her family by her side. She was 62.

Born in Albany on Oct. 19, 1956, Ms. Stilsing was the beloved daughter of Dorilee (née Hedrick) Stilsing and the late Harold Stilsing.
