The diamond was cold and windy last Thursday when the Voorheesville Blackbirds played a non-league game against Mohonasen at home. The Birds kept it close for four innings, being tied 1 to 1, but the Warriors flexed their muscles and downed the young Birds, 9 to 1.

The weather was cold and windy on Tuesday afternoon as the Berne-Knox-Westerlo track-and-field team faced off against Duanesburg at home. The teams did their best in the windy conditions where the BKW boys won, 72 to 49, and the girls lost, 83 to 46.

The Guilderland softball team battled the Ballston Spa Scotties in an early season Suburban Council matchup on Friday afternoon at home. The game started as a pitchers’ duel but then the Scotties’ bats woke up and the Dutch fell behind. A Dutch rally fell short in the 11-to-6 loss.

The bats came alive for the Berne-Knox-Westerlo baseball team at the end of the game on Monday afternoon against the Mekeel Christian Academy Lions at home. The Bulldogs trailed, 3 to 0, after six-and-a-half innings but then rallied for a 4-to-3 win.

Originally the Sap Run 5K was supposed to run in Knox last Saturday but due to cold and brutal winds, the race finally ran the weekend of Maplefest in Knox and Berne on Saturday March 30.

Cold weather spawned hot competition last Thursday as Guilderland, 3-0 on the season, beat the Warriors at Averill Park, 7 to 2.

Getting off on the right foot: Both the Guilderland girls and Voorheesville boys won lacrosse games this week. The Dutch faced Columbia at home on Tuesday afternoon and won a barn burner, 14-to-12, while the Blackbirds, also at home, on Monday easily beat Cambridge, 11 to 6.
