Pipeline is laid to bring village water to Wildwood

ALTAMONT—Contractors hired by Wildwood Programs laid pipe under Route 156 this week, bringing the dream of running water to Camp Wildwood one step closer to reality.

VOORHEESVILLE — Smoking may soon be banned in village parks, and cigarette ads in Voorheesville stores may be made less visible to kids.

BERNE — The Berne-Knox-Westerlo School Board plans to cut close to $850,000 from next year’s budget. The board is currently aiming for a $19.6-million budget, down from this year’s $20.5-million budget. A 3-percent tax levy hike is projected.

BERNE — E. Stewart Jones, who has represented former Supreme Court Justice Thomas Spargo during the better part of his decade-long legal battle, is fighting a conflict-of-interest charge that could take him off the case.

NEW SCOTLAND — Jake Moon cast about two generations ago, but his likeness now graces an old diner in Clarksville.

He was “sort of a Rip Van Winkle type,” Moon’s great-grandson said of him.

WESTERLO — A fire in town destroyed the home of a family and its tenant last week.

The blaze began at about 2 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 144 Slade Hill Road, under a trailer owned by the Ferguson family.
