ALTAMONT — Fallout from a change in management at a local landmark — a convenience store and gas station — sparked controversy this week.





VOORHEESVILLE – The Voorheesville Central School District has now spent over $100,000 in its attempt to recoup $216,000 from two former school officials.





NEW SCOTLAND – Striving to preserve New Scotland’s rural character, the town board recently passed two new laws – a right-to-farm law, and a noise-control law.





KNOX — Whipple, Helderberg and Malachi roads have been maintained by the Knox highway department for years, according to Highway Superintendent Gary Salisbury. Salisbury would like to see them become town roads.





BERNE — A Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School student who uses a wheelchair can’t get from the gym to the cafeteria now because they are on different levels.





BERNE —Joan Adriance, Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s newly appointed school board president, sees herself as a facilitator. She doesn’t see her role as one which gives her authority to make decisions.

GUILDERLAND — After hitting a car and then a CTDA bus in the 20 Mall parking lot, an Altamont man is listed in serious condition at Albany Medical Center Hospital.





GUILDERLAND — Power and calm have been restored to the Willow Street neighborhood where over 200 homes lost electricity.





GUILDERLAND — The planning board last week gave conceptual approval to the proposed Glass Works Village neighborhood, for which the town board will uncharacteristically act as lead agent for the project.





ALTAMONT — The local gas station, convenience store, deli, and car wash, known as Ketchum’s, was recently sold to a Connecticut company for $787,500. Now it will be called Cobble Pond Farms.





NEW SCOTLAND – The family of Amelia Lee is mourning her unexpected death; She died when her home at 32 Lower Flat Rock Rd. burned on Aug. 9.





NEW SCOTLAND – David Moreau, a large landowner in town, complained to the town board last week about the fees he has to pay to divide his land.

BERNE — "We need to set aside our fears, set aside our politics, help our residents, and save our tax dollars," Berne Supervisor Kevin Crosier said at last Wednesday night’s town board meeting.
