Learn about the Gilded Age from Troy’s historian

To the Editor:

The Guilderland Historical Society will be holding its monthly meeting on Nov. 20 at the Helderberg Room of the Guilderland Public Library beginning at 1 p.m. After a brief business meeting, the featured presenter will be Kathryn Sheehan, the executive director of the Hart Cluett Museum in Troy.

In addition, she is the historian for Troy as well as Rensselaer County. She is currently working on a publication entitled “Architecture Worth Saving in Rensselaer County Revisited.”

Ms. Sheehan’s presentation will  be on the Gilded Age. This will be  an illustrated talk on the remarkably preserved neighborhoods that have become the backdrop for the Julian Fellowes production of “The Gilded Age,” seasons one through five.

Recently, Kathryn has been a location and historic background advisor for HBO’s production, “The Gilded Age.” She has appeared on national and international shows including CSPAN, the History Channel, Russian and Japanese television. She has appeared locally on WMHT, CBS6, and WNYT.

Kathy can be often seen giving tours through downtown Troy and Oakwood Cemetery.

This will be a great opportunity for those of you who have enjoyed “The Gilded Age” to learn about the background of this series.
