NEW SCOTLAND — Krumkill Road could be open again by Dec. 1 if a temporary fix goes as planned.

It closed on Nov. 5, five days ahead of schedule, when the temporary lights controlling the one-lane strip of road that was narrowed after damage from Tropical Storm Irene failed in cold weather.

Superintendent of highways Darrell Duncan is hoping to build a 700-foot strip of road along the inside curve of the existing road so that it can stay open over the winter.  The tropical storm had eroded the ground beneath the original roadbed, making one lane impassable.  The town has acquired a license agreement from the people who own the property along the road on which the new lanes will be built.

Duncan is planning to pave next week.  He expects that the whole of the project will cost about $20,000.
