Pearl M. Kelley

ALTAMONT — Pearl M. Kelley, a teacher and volunteer, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at Teresian House in Albany. She was 98.

Mrs. Kelley was born to Jacob and Elsie May.
She married Charles Kelley, who served as Altamont’s superintendent of public works until his death in the 1970s.

Mrs. Kelley was an elementary school teacher for the Albany City School District for over 30 years.

“Pearl was a bit of an icon to those in Altamont who knew her,” said her attorney, James Roemer. “One never had to guess her opinion about any subject matter under discussion.”

“She loved to drive, and she enjoyed traveling,” said Mrs. Kelley’s former neighbor, Mary Neumann.

Mrs. Kelley volunteered in the community, including at Teresian House, before she moved into the assisted living facility, Ms. Neumann said.

“In her later years, she was devoted to her poodle companion, Chloe,” she said of Mrs. Kelley.

Ms. Neumann said that a brief service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, at Fairview Cemetery in Altamont.
