BKW classmate in hurricane’s path needs our help

To the Editor:

I hope all of you are well.

I just got off the phone with Dennis Delaney, one of our Berne-Knox-Westerlo alumni, who lives in Panama City, Florida, which was devastated by the hurricane. He says that it is unimaginable to go through your neighborhood and see everything is gone — houses, trees everywhere, boats on the lawn, etc. I’m sure you’ve seen the videos.

Our classmate needs help. He is hesitant for me to do this. But he and his wife could use our help and love. There are few supplies that people can get their hands on there.

A half-hour trip to a store now takes up to two hours and everyone is vying for supplies. He says it’s an amazing wake-up call to find the simple things you take for granted and now cannot.

That’s where we come in! Please help by sending anything you can. No monetary gifts. Dennis said he’d rather you give to the Salvation Army or whatever than to him. But I did get him to accept any canned goods, staples, etc. Their cupboards are bare so let’s help fill them!

I'm baking a CareBear package and sending out today. Let me know if you can help and I’ll send you his address.

Every little thing matters. If you cannot donate, send an encouraging email and I will forward to him. You can reach me at carrielafontaine69@gmail.com.

He needs our help. This is what we do. Let’s do it!
