We are helping children, teens, adults, and seniors to achieve greater health and well-being
To the Editor:
Each day, adults who have survived cancer come to the Y because we offer Livestrong at the YMCA, a program focused on supporting cancer survivors, and helping them find a way forward with greater confidence and hope, thanks to the support of our trained and caring staff.
Individuals who suffer from Parkinson’s Disease come to the Y because we offer Pedaling for Parkinson’s, a program that helps them experience some relief from the effects of this disease. Mary, whose husband, Kevin, was an early participant of this program, shared that the Y had helped Kevin get his smile back.
Families who have a child with a life-threatening illness come to the Y to join our Circle of Champs program. This program gives families the opportunity to spend quality time together engaged in a variety of fun, family activities that are offered at no cost, so families can enjoy much-needed time together that’s not centered around the next medical procedure.
We are grateful for the incredible courage displayed by these individuals.
We are also grateful for the courage of those who come to us who are new to this country, and are seeking friends and support as they find their way in their new home. We are grateful for those who have the courage to come to us to lose weight, or improve their balance, learn to swim, or run their first 5K race.
Each day, in every community we serve, we are helping tens of thousands of children, teens, adults, and seniors to achieve greater health and well-being. This is our mission.
