Mair to speak on mixed-race regiment that fought at the Battle of the Normanskill

To the Editor:

The September meeting of the Guilderland Historical Society will be held at the Guilderland Public Library in the Helderberg Room.

At 7 p.m., Mr. Aaron Mair will be presenting a talk on the Battle of the Normanskill. Mr. Mair has done considerable work investigating the involvement of a Rhode Island Regiment and in particular the Afro-American soldiers who were part of this regiment.

This battle on the soil of our township had some significant bearing on the subsequent Battle of Saratoga.  Mr. Mair is currently working on a project memorializing this battle with a statue. Mr. Mair has an extensive and varied background, including serving as president of the Sierra Club.

The Guilderland Historical Society has many ongoing activities. If you are of a mind to, our business meeting will begin at 6:15 p.m. Please consider joining us at that time.
