Join us in the wayback machine for a multi-class reunion

To the Editor:
Thinking about our 45th reunion of Guilderland Central High School Class of 1978 takes me back in time to buying my first pair of Levi Strauss jeans at Colonie Center.

I saved up my babysitting money for the famed red tag on the back pocket. Later, I embroidered a rainbow and a sun on the faded back pocket.

People would sing Dr. Hook & the Medicine tune “Sylvia’s Mother” to me in the halls, mostly the middle-aged teachers who grew up in the ’60s.

I remember listening to my English teachers, Mrs. Redmond and Mr. Pidgeon, who later inspired me to get my bachelor’s degree in English (American literature and writing) at SUNY Potsdam.

Or going with my class to do a clean-up project at the Pine Bush, and my photo ended up being on the cover of a Times Union section — my long hair flowing back, dragging a piece of trash!

I was a ’70s girl through and through.

Now, my Class of ’78 is inviting any GCHS alumni or alumnae from 1974 onwards to join us in the wayback machine for a multi-class reunion on Sept. 16 at Lanthier’s Grove in Latham. Grandchildren and children aged 5 to 12 years old are welcome to join in the merriment!

Volleyball, horseshoes, and more will be available. The picnic lunch is from noon to 3 p.m. Dinner begins at 4:15 p.m. Lunch and a chicken dinner costs $56.65; lunch and a steak dinner costs $59.13; and lunch and a lasagna vegetarian dinner costs $56.55.

All dinners include a baked potato, salad choices, and steamed clams. Soda, draft beers, non-alcoholic beer, lemonade, ice tea, and water are free. A cash bar opens at 12:15 p.m. The deadline for payment  is Aug. 30.

This will be a great chance to spark old memories and make some new ones together. Contact Jeanne Kisby at for the Venmo code or send in checks payable to: Jeanne Kisby, Post Office Box 702, Guilderland, NY 12084.
