Those who have automobiles are requested to fill the spare seat, if there is one, with others who are not possessors of cars. Everyone is to bring their own basket luncheon. A community coffee pot will be provided at the picnic, also there will be hot dogs and soft drinks.
The afternoon’s program will include a ball game, quoit pitching, racing, water sports, etc. Many are planning to remain for the dance at Pitcher’s Grove in the evening.

LAST MATINEE AT CAMPBELL

AVE. TRACK, SCHENECTADY

The Schenectady Driving club will hold another of its series of matinee harness racing meets on Saturday afternoon, August 1st, at 2:30 o’clock. This will be the last matinee before the trotters and pacers of Schenectady start out on their annual summer and fall campaign over the county fair tracks. A large attendance is looked for.

A Summer Shower

Mrs. Frank Crounse and Miss Ada Frederick were joint hostesses at a post-nuptial shower tendered Mrs. Ray Petersen at their home near Meadowdale.

It had been previously arranged that relatives, whom Mrs. Petersen was entertaining that afternoon, should express a desire also to call on Mrs. Crounse and Miss Frederick. On coming from the living room to the porch she was very much surprised to find a large number of her friends and acquaintances who rose to greet her.

Standing just at her left, at one end of the spacious veranda, was an imitation of a large pyramid wedding cake, artistically decorated and surmounted by a miniature bride and groom. Cleverly concealed within the cake were various gifts for the recent bride from her assembled friends, who were mostly neighborhood ladies and children, some of whom were her former pupils, when she (then Miss Gladys M. Crounse) taught for two years in the Meadowdale school.

Mrs. Petersen found it a pleasing task to unwrap each gift, and in a charming manner expressed her thanks for each. An occasional joke on the bride and groom added merriment to the party.

FRUIT GROWERS TO HAVE
COUNTY AUTO TOUR

Fruit growers of Albany county will enjoy a field day and auto tour on Thursday, August 6th, the purpose of which is to study local conditions by visiting various farms where there is something of particular interest.

BARN STRUCK BY LIGHTNING

During the heavy thunder storm late Sunday afternoon, lightning struck the barn belonging to Alvy White, in the town of Knox. The building was completely destroyed, together with a horse, fowls, a quantity of hay and grain, and some farming implements. With the combined efforts of their neighbors the house was saved.

Mr. and Mrs. White are very thankful for the faithful services of their friends and neighbors who helped save their home during the fire and storm.
