What if you call and no one comes?

To the Editor:
I read with interest two letters to the editor in the July 13, 2023 edition. One titled “One person can make a difference” and the other, “A lesson in passive aggression.”  To me, they both spoke about volunteering.

Think about all the groups that depend on volunteers — Kiwanis, which sponsors soccer in the fall and baseball in the spring; Community Caregivers and Town of New Scotland Senior Outreach that help seniors each and every day. People need to step up or shut up if these important activities will be able to continue in our community.

Giving of yourself is one of the most important things you can do. In the Islam religion, I learned that charity work is required of a practicing Muslim. Think about all the volunteer firefighters and auxiliary members who are at your door within minutes of a 9-1-1 call.  What if you call and no one comes?

As Elaine Doremus states, “ You too can make a difference.”

We all have talents. Why not share them with others?

If you’re not familiar with the song, “No Man Is an Island,” Google the lyrics now.

We’re put on this earth to help one another. Think about where you can serve and how you can step up and help your neighbor and your community.
