Fast work on fallen tree appreciated

Upended: A large maple on Voorheesville Avenue brought down power lines as it fell during the violent July 16 storm.

To the Editor:

On July 16, at around 5:30 p.m., a storm rolled into Voorheesville, taking down an aging silver maple tree on Voorheesville Avenue, which brought down power lines, putting hot wires in the road.

Within minutes, Voorheesville fire police were on the scene, blocking both ends of the road. Minutes later, Voorheesville firefighters were on the scene in full gear.

One of the first firefighters on the scene was a fellow named Clark Thomas. I quickly took a photo of Mr. Thomas.

If I had to put a name on the photo, I would entitle it “Intense Observation.”

Thanks to the effort of the Voorheesville Fire Department, National Grid, the Albany County Department of Public Works, and Nelson Tree Service, we were back on line in five hours.

Every member of these crews were team players. Nice job, Folks.
