Strawberry Social reminds us why we love Altamont

To the Editor:

Once again, the weather favored Altamont, as we celebrated the start of summer with Altamont Community Tradition’s annual Strawberry Social, on Tuesday evening, June 25. Orsini Park came alive with families, friends, and neighbors.

ACT thanks Altamont Orchards and Stewart’s Shops for their donations, which we used to create homemade strawberry shortcakes. Monday was a busy day from morning till evening for ACT members and Friends of ACT.

Hundreds of homemade biscuits were baked from scratch, and quart after quart of juicy strawberries from Altamont Orchards were sliced and prepped for the big evening. Many thanks to the volunteers serving up the delicious treats to our eager guests.

The biggest hit of the evening was Mac N Tosh the Clown. It started early, and it was wonderful to see Altamont’s youngest residents line up for their turn to delight in a temporary tattoo or a balloon creation.

Following a call for assistance from Stu and Anne Linendoll, tradition commanded the fun and games continue with the big parachute, sack races, and other games. ACT sends a big thanks to Mac N Tosh and the Linendolls for arranging spirited fun for the growing families of Altamont.

Thanks to the many visitors who thoughtfully contributed to the donation jar for the Altamont Food Pantry.

Each year, ACT is pleased to provide this informal setting for our neighbors to relax with a little treat, some fun, good conversation, and a gentle reminder of why we love Altamont.
