Brundige pleads guilty to felony weapons charge

Douglas Brundige

A Troy man who had a loaded handgun and other weapons in his car, discovered during a traffic stop in New Scotland, has pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Douglas Brundige, 38, pleaded to the felony before Judge Thomas A. Breslin in Albany County Supreme Court on July 1.

On Feb. 28, around 10:45 a.m., Brundige was driving in the area of Indian Fields Road in New Scotland when, according to a release from the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, he was pulled over by the Albany County Sheriff’s deputies for license-plate violations.  Upon approaching the vehicle the officers detected a strong smell of marijuana, the release said; a search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded .22-caliber firearm, metal knuckles, lead-filled gloves, a wooden baton, a slap jack and a ski mask with gloves.

Brundige faces four-and-a-half years in state prison, to be followed by three years of post-release supervision, when sentenced on Sept. 14.

Assistant District Attorney Steven Sharp of the Street Crimes Unit is prosecuting this case.
