Don’t destroy Altamont’s Victorian image

To the Editor:

People and the village government have gone to a great deal of expense to recreate a lovely Victorian village here in Altamont.

How can you possibly destroy the image we have worked so hard to achieve? A monstrous highly lit new Stewart’s right in the center of the village would certainly do that.

I like Stewart’s and I frequent it. As it is — it serves us well.

And, on the subject of preserving our village’s charm and essence, I would like to propose a two-storey limit to any future construction. Suitably designed condominiums, senior-living or apartment houses could blend and be assimilated into our community.

I hope our village officials consider these issues now.
