Battery storage system will move forward

To the Editor:

First and foremost your article regarding battery storage in Feura Bush [“Large battery storage system proposed for Feura Bush,” The Altamont Enterprise, July 15, 2025] should be factual (i.e. correct information).

The proposed site for the storage unit is not the New England Beagle Gun Dog Federation. It is rather the New Scotland Beagle Club. Second, the Onesquethaw Volunteer Fire Company Station on Route 308 is located directly across from the proposed RIC site. The New Salem Volunteer Fire Department is miles away.

Your story states, “Chairman Jeffrey Baker noted the high likelihood of residents’ concern regarding BESS safety, potential fires, and fumes, and added there was a need for the hazard analysis and emergency response plan to be presented in a manner ‘much more accessible’ and devoid of excessive ‘technical jargon,’ to foster public understanding and assurance.”

As responsible neighbors, I’m sure SABIC, Mathewson (Air Products), and Owens Corning have submitted hazard analysis and emergency response plans — talk about potential fire and fumes.

(Have you ever crossed the bridge headed north on Route 32 over the CSX tracks — maybe take a stroll down Creble Road — smells good doesn’t it !)

As progressive liberals you find yourselves in a dilemma. Y’all wanted this stuff. Tesla was your sweetheart child until —

Now it’s not in my backyard — very similar to the illegal aliens you let in.

In closing, the Town of New Scotland passed the law. RIC will meet the letter of the law. The project will move forward!

Editor’s note: The New Scotland Beagle Club, which is a member of the Northeast Beagle Gundog Federation, owns 137 acres at 1543 Indian Fields Roads with a full-market value of 380,800, according to the New Scotland assessment roll. That property, where the battery storage system has been proposed, is, indeed, near the Onesquethaw firehouse, not the New Salem firehouses.
