Barbara A. Costin

ALTAMONT — Barbara A. Costin — who was “mainly a mom,” her daughter said — died peacefully on Sunday, June 12, 2016, in Fairfax, Virginia surrounded by her family. She was 75.

Barbara Ann Lazzo was born and raised in Troy, New York and married Paul G. Costin in 1962.

“She worked as a medical business manager, enjoyed travel and golf, and hosted many international students who knew her as Mom,” her family wrote in a tribute.

“My parents moved to Altamont when I was 2,” said Bridgette Costin Khoo. “They were there from 1965 to 1999. She loved Altamont. She loved that we knew everybody in town. She was involved in the Altamont Fair. Altamont was home to us.”

Mrs. Costin and her husband relocated to Fairfax, Virginia in 1999 to reside near their children and grandchildren. Mrs. Costin was a devoted grandmother, her daughter said.

Describing her mother’s personality, Ms. Khoo said, “She had an awesome sense of humor….She made friends very quickly and very deeply. She reached out to other people.”

What she learned from her mother, Ms. Khoo said was “how to treat people in a loving way.”

She concluded, of all the places her mother lived, “She considered Altamont to be home.”

Barbara A. Costin is survived by her husband, Paul; her daughters, Bridgette Costin Khoo and Sheila Costin; their husbands; and three grandchildren.

A Celebration of Barbara Costin’s Life will be held on Sunday, June 26, in Virginia.
