The new pedestrian bridge is in place in Slingerlands over New Scotland Road, which will be closed for a month, while drainage issues are resolved.

ALBANY COUNTY — New Scotland Road will be closed in both directions in Slingerlands beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 30, through Monday, July 31, at 6 a.m.

The Albany County Department of Public Works is replacing the century-old railroad bridge that goes over State Route 85 with a pedestrian bridge that is part of the county’s Hudson-Helderberg Rail Trail.

New Scotland Road will be completely shut down to traffic in the immediate vicinity of the bridge, between Kenwood Avenue and Mullins Road. Traffic will be detoured over Cherry and Kenwood avenues.

“During this time, the drainage issues that have existed under the previous bridge will be addressed,” said a release from the county. “The complete road closure will shorten the overall length of time of the project and help ensure the safety of motorists and construction workers alike.”
