ALBANY COUNTY — Along with a broad swath of New York state, Albany County is under a wind advisory for Saturday.

The advisory is under effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 14.

West winds from 15 to 25 miles per hour are expected with gusts up to 50 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service foresees these impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

The service advises, “Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Use extra caution.”

Albany County is not expected to be hit by the clipper-type system that will bring the heaviest snowfall across the North Country and northern Mohawk Valley regions.

Areas east of Lake Ontario in the Tug Hill Plateau could see up to 18 inches of snow and winds up to 30 miles per hour, according to a release from the governor’s office. Higher elevations throughout Western New York have the potential to see up to eight inches of snow and wind gusts in areas along the Lake Erie shore could reach up to 60 miles per hour.

Snowfall and winds are expected to result in power outages, the release said, and create dangerous travel conditions during the Friday evening commute.

In Albany County, there is a chance of rain and snow showers tonight, March 13, as well as Saturday morning and afternoon, the weather service says, with accumulation under an inch. Saturday will be partly sunny with a high near 42 degrees.

More snow showers are possible on Sunday, with a high near 43. There’s a 70-percent chance of rain on Sunday night, which rises to 90 percent on Monday, when the high will be near 62 degrees.

Tuesday, more rain and snow is likely with a high near 38 degrees.
