Who deserves credit for saving 250-year-old white oak?
To the Editor:
I am not a big fan of development, but sometimes it is necessary — the greener, the better for me.
But I am the type of guy that gives credit when credit is due. I am referring to the beautiful white oak tree on the Stewart’s lot at Mill Hill in Guilderland.
I don’t know if it was the developer, the Guilderland Town Board, or a concerned citizens group who left this tree unscathed throughout this development, but many people are grateful this tree is still standing.
I took the liberty of measuring this tree to determine its age. This tree measured 16 feet around at four feet up from the ground.
The app I used to determine the age of this white oak said it started its life around 1750. I am sure with a core sample they could narrow that timeframe down.
This tree has seen a lot of change in its lifetime.
But back to the point of this letter: If anyone knows who kept this tree alive and not culled please drop The Enterprise a line.
There are lots of people who want to thank the person or people responsible for saving this tree.
I have enclosed a photo of this tree I took this spring and, by the way, I am in no way, shape, or form the photographer that Michael Koff is!
Let’s find out who deserves credit for this tree still standing. It is a great asset to the community.
