To the Editor:

The editorial, “Play time is essential to students’ learning” [The Altamont Enterprise, May 28, 2025] doesn’t go far enough. Play itself is essential to all learning. Delightful curiosity is a key to all learning.

Think of young children exploring the world before schooling. It’s amazing what they learn. And then something happens. Learning becomes less playful, less courageous, less joyful.

So the question is: How do we keep that spirit alive in all learning, not only in schools, but for life? How can the fun and friendliness of play time that children still seem to have be welcomed in classes to help make them future-ready? And how can it be reawakened in all of us as we encounter our futures?
