Hilltown parade theme is ‘Honor and Sacrifice’
To the Editor:
The annual Hilltowns Memorial Day Parade on May 27 is both a celebration and a memorial event, commemorating those who have been lost during service to our country. This year’s theme is “Honor and Sacrifice.”
The parade this year will be led by the color guard of the Altamont Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7062 and the honor guard of American Legion Post 977, and will include the Berne-Knox-Westerlo marching band, fire and emergency vehicles, floats, military and classic vehicles, and horses, as well as adult and youth marching groups.
The parade begins at 10 a.m. and proceeds through the hamlet of Berne. The memorial garden and flagpole in front of the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Elementary school is the site of the laying of a wreath, color guard ceremony, and taps, followed by awards for parade participants.
In the BKW Elementary School cafeteria, there will be a display of pictures and memorabilia of Hilltown veterans. Routes 443 from Turner Road to Canaday Hill Road and 156 from Rock Road to Route 443 will be closed for the parade from 9:45 to 11:15 a.m. The parade is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of the Helderbergs; we invite you to join us.
