Community Cares Days Weekend and is open to the community at large

To the Editor:

I am writing to invite our community to participate in the fifth annual Community Green Clean: A recycling collection event to be held on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Voorheesville firehouse at 12 Altamont Road in Voorheesville.

This year, we will be adding several new collections to the event. These include:

— Bicycles — all sizes and types in any condition. Mike the Bike Guy is a bicycle rehab specialist who repairs and refurbishes donated bicycles and donates them to children who might not otherwise experience the joy that riding a bike can bring. Mike is anxious to teach his trade to someone (or a group) in this area. Interested in this opportunity? Mike needs some extra hands on May 4; call Karen at 518-765-2692 to help out;

— Furniture — The Capital Region Furniture Bank will have its truck available to accept donations of furniture in good, usable condition, including tables, chairs, dressers, end tables, bed frames, mattresses (no king size). Please note: The Furniture Bank reserves the right of refusal on items it deems unsuitable; and

— Yarn, knitting, and crochet supplies, and sewing notions — the New Scotland Senior Citizens is looking to rebuild its stock.

As in the past, we will continue to accept: Bottles and cans for the firehouse auxiliary; clothing for Karie Jean’s Closet; books for the Friends of the Library; small blankets and throws (especially fleece, nothing with batting); gently-used towels as well as pet food, kitty litter, essential oil diffusers, pet toys, large spray bottles, and laundry detergent for the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society; and scrap metal for theVoorheesville lacrosse team.

Unfortunately, there will be no paper shredding at this year’s event. The truck is scheduled to be at Swift Road Park sometime in the fall.

This Green Clean event is part of the Community Cares Days Weekend and is open to the community at large. Helpers are needed for a variety of projects. Contact Village Hall at 518-765-2692.
