Instead of arguing and legal steps, choose the best location for the best service
To the Editor:
I have not taken sides on the current controversy about locating a tower in Rensselaerville for emergency purposes. Indeed, I don’t know where the location proposed by the Albany County Sheriff is, Edwards Hill. But I read the letter to your editor in last week’s Altamont Enterprise and your front-page article in the issue you published March 31, 2016.
In both the letter and in your article, Charles Burgess said there are other locations that would provide better service to the areas of Preston Hollow and Potter Hollow than the Edwards Hill location. In his job, Charles has to evaluate many factors about land use so he is professionally qualified to make this statement.
My question for Sheriff Apple is this: Why have these other locations Charles said would provide better service not been investigated and considered?
Everybody agrees that emergency communications need to be improved in many areas of Rensselaerville. I think that the best location for a tower is where the best service can be had to the presently underserved areas of the town.
Instead of arguing and legal steps, choose the best location for the best service. If the best location is somewhere other than Edwards Hill, choose the better location.
I hope that Sheriff Apple will talk to Charles Burgess and find out where these better locations are because Potter Hollow and Preston Hollow desperately need the best communications possible.
(Mrs.) Janet L. Haseley
