To the Editor:

On Friday, March 1, Guilderland High School held its 11th Annual Dodgeball Tournament, raising $900 for the Altamont Community Food Pantry. Since beginning in 2009, this event has raised a total of $34,346 for the food pantry!

What an incredible fundraiser this has been. These funds have been used each year to purchase food from the Regional Food Bank and have been a huge help in making sure we are able to meet the needs of our community.

Physical education teachers Allison Relyea and Mike Schaffer have been organizing the event since its inception. On behalf of all those who have benefited from your generosity to the Altamont Community Food Pantry, thank you, Mrs. Relyea and Mr. Schaffer, as well as all of the students, faculty and staff, administrators, and spectators who have participated this year and throughout the 11 years.

What a fun and exciting event to be a part of and to watch, but we know it also takes much time and effort to make it happen.

It is wonderful how the dodgeball tournament allows the students the opportunity to enjoy some healthy, fun competition, while directly and significantly helping those in need in their own community. Thank you for all you have done. Your kindness, commitment, generosity, and hard work has truly made a difference.
