DELANSON
Jacob Enders and family and Mrs. William Enders motored to Schoharie Sunday afternoon and called on Mrs. William Enders’s sister, Mrs. Von Linden. When they returned in the evening it was raining and on account of the icy condition of Quaker Street hill they left their car at the top and walked home. They found the walking slippery.
SCHOHARIE AND BARTON HILL
Local hunters report seeing many deer in this vicinity recently. The most seen was a herd of sixteen and a fawn on the Floyd Mann farm last week.
SOUTH THOMPSON’S LAKE
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Quay entertained about twenty-five of their friends last Friday night. Games and music were enjoyed and luncheon was served. A peanut walk was rather amusing, Alta Quay winning the first prize, carrying the most peanuts across the room on the back of her hand, the number being thirty-six.
SPECIAL SERVICE AT
DELMAR M. E. CHURCH
The Womans Foreign Missionary society of the Methodist church, together with the church choir have been making considerable preparation for this Sunday evening’s service. The choir has some especially fine musical selections which will harmonize with the missionary program. The speaker of the evening will be Mrs. Margaret Scouten, who comes from British South Africa, where she has been a missionary worker for eleven years. She will have some very thrilling tales to tell and will tell them in a way that will make it worth while to a listener. Mrs. Scouten will be accompanied by her daughter, who will also have her part in the evening’s program, reciting in the native dialect.
VILLAGE NOTES
The annual Firemen’s ball, given by the Altamont Hose company at Masonic hall last Friday evening, was one of the most successful affairs of its kind ever held here. In spite of the cold weather, there must have been between 200 and 300 persons in the hall shortly after the dance began. Not the least enjoyable part of the evening’s entertainment was the excellent music rendered by “Art” Thompson’s orchestra. More than $200 was realized as the proceeds of the dance, and this sum will be used toward the purchase of equipment for the firemen. Once more the people of Altamont have shown their appreciation of the loyal service rendered by our firemen.
WEST TOWNSHIP
Mrs. Jacob Auchampaugh fell on the ice recently in such a manner as to break several of her ribs.
STATE ROAD, SOUTH BERNE
Mr. and Mrs. John W. Stewart expect to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on February 15. We wish them a very enjoyable time.
McCORMACK’S CORNERS
Through the watchful eye of Frank Hogan the Roehr home was saved from flames last Thursday night. It is Mr. Hogan’s custom to look about before retiring at night, and his home being situated on a knoll affords him a wide view. It was while he was scanning the neighborhood that he noticed the Roehr house to be on fire. He quickly notified the neighbors and was at the fire before they discovered it themselves and after an hour’s work it was under control. The neighbors as well as Mr. Roehr thank Mr. Hogan most heartily.
