Highway workers keep America on the move

To the Editor:

I would like to add to the praises of those who are helping to preserve the Hilton LeVie Barn on Route 85A. Alongside of the many I mentioned in my letter to the editor last week are the hardworking men and women of our Albany County Highway Department. They can be seen on site at the barn contributing their expertise to this worthy project.

Albany County and the history of this place represents one of the oldest settlements in all of America. Although the Hilton LeVie Barn does not date back to our country’s beginnings, it is representative of a bygone era significant to the later farming community that dominated this region.

So too, not to be forgotten, are the present-day efforts of the county highway commissioner, Daryl Duncan, and his industrious staff. Their toil is evident by the progress and repairs we see while traveling our county roads daily. These roads keep our commerce moving and allow us to travel to and from our jobs that we may sustain our livings and participate in our modern world.

So it is also fitting that our county highway workers participate in the preservation of an iconic barn of our past. Thank you to all highway workers from the state, county, town, and village! Without you, America would slow to a crawl!
