Eight more COVID cases at GCSD

GUILDERLAND — On Tuesday evening, Superintendent Marie Wiles sent another email to “GCSD Families,” reporting eight new confirmed cases of COVID-19.

According to the state’s COVID-19 Report Card, as of Tuesday evening, the district has had 83 cases since the start of the school year: 46 at the high school, 16 at the middle school, six each at Altamont and Lynnwood elementary schools, four at Pine Bush Elementary School, three at Westmere Elementary School, and two at Guilderland Elementary School.

None of the eight new cases — four at Westmere Elementary, three at Guilderland High School, and one at Altamont Elementary — required contact tracing, Wiles wrote.

She also wrote that the district is awaiting guidance from the governor on his Monday announcement that school districts in countries, like Albany County, with infection rates over 9 percent will need to test staff and students and demonstrate a lower infection rate to remain open.

“I will share that information with you as soon as it becomes available,” Wiles concluded.
