The Altamont Fire Department held a commemoration ceremony on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Asked for his advice on longevity, George said, “I tell everybody you’ve got to keep moving and you’ve got to quit bitching.”

For decades, John Sands has donated hanging flower baskets to grace utility poles in Altamont; in the winter, he donates pine sprays. 

GUILDERLAND — Samantha Nass Floral & Event Design will open on Aug. 12 at Stuyvesant Plaza.

The floral pop-up will be located between Simone’s Kitchen and Union Hall Supply Co.

The Literary Garden at the Guilderland Public Library was in full bloom on Saturday with music, crafts, a guided book hike, and a scavenger hunt. The Flower Festival celebrated the library’s summer reading program, which followed a “Color Our World” theme set by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for libraries across the nation. The IMLS is facing defunding and closure because of an executive order from the Trump administration calling for its elimination, which is being challenged in court.

Children enjoyed slides and sweets at the annual fair raising funds for the New Salem Volunter Fire Department.

On Aug. 23, the My Way Tavern in Knox will feature live music from the band Tangled Web to celebrate its one-year anniversary. The restaurant is a spiritual successor to the Township Tavern, where owner Erin Thorpe had worked prior to opening her own restaurant.
