Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York is continuing its mission to serve girls in the midst of coronavirus restrictions by going virtual with its Girl Scouting at Home program, which recognizes that Girl Scouts may feel disconnected.
To fund the trip, Troop 1482 is collecting new or gently-worn shoes to be delivered to the organization Funds2Orgs, which pays for collected shoes that are then sent to developing nations.
Girl Scouts in Troop 5013 planted wildflowers in two community garden plots at Switzkill Farm on May 17. “We have more available for anyone to use,” said Mark Hohengasser who helped organize the event.
Girl Scout Troop 1482 is holding a shoe-drive fundraiser through the Funds2Orgs Organization. All shoes collected will be repurposed and sent to developing nations, in an effort to provide economic opportunities for micro-entrepreneurs, as well as to help the environment through the use of recycling.
The idea of recycling became a whole lot less abstract for the girls of Brownie Troop 1419 in Guilderland when they toured a recycling plant on Fuller Road in Albany and found out where empty PET bottles actually go and saw what it takes to ready them for a new life.
For our Girl Scout Silver Award project we, with Mr. Al Gaige’s assistance, built two bookshelves for the Berne-Knox-Westerlo pre-kindergarten students. We did this so that the children could learn how to read, as well as enjoy reading by the time they enter kindergarten.
