GUILDERLAND — The general town tax rate will not increase in 2011, according to Supervisor Kenneth Runion, who filed the preliminary budget on Wednesday, one day before the state-mandated deadline.

GUILDERLAND — A bid for the first phase of a $5.27 million new Westmere firehouse project will be awarded on Oct. 4.

The old firehouse, built in 1956, will be torn down, and the new firehouse is slated to be complete by the spring of 2012.

GUILDERLAND — The Metro 20 Diner is slated to re-open in November under new ownership, as the Capital City Diner.

ALTAMONT — The soldier statue stolen from the Home Front Café has been returned.

“He’s been nicked up a little bit,” said the café’s owner, Cindy Pollard. “It wasn’t badly damaged. We’ll unveil it soon.”
