The summer worship schedule at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 140 Maple Ave., in Altamont on Sunday, Sept. 1, is as follows:

— 9:30 a.m., traditional worship;

The theme for this service is “Work and Witness,” a sermon for Labor Day, based on Second Thessalonians 3:6-13, by the pastor Gregory Zajac.

The Guilderland Senior Services is offering the following activities the week of Aug. 26. Call the senior office at 356-1980, ext. 1048 for any questions or information.

Aug. 15 was Armed Services Day when military personnel were admitted to the fair for free.

Police Chief Todd Pucci said a plea deal offering Kevin R. Willsey six months in jail for three felonies is fair since Willsey, an Altamont mechanic, had no prior arrests. Pucci said Willsey was a chop-shop  "customer."

The Music Mobile will stop in seven Albany County sites this summer, including the Altamont Free Library on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 3:30 p.m.

Guilderland joined the rest of the state in receiving disappointing state test scores. School leaders say the tests don't reflect the Common Core Standards and students weren't taught the new material.

After two years of sometimes difficult negotiations, the Guilderland Employees' Association and the school district cleared the hurdle of an impasse to agree on a four-year contract.

Battles leave scars that sometimes aren't seen. The American Legion Riders are hosting a poker run to raise funds for the Wounded Warriors Project, which helps veterans with both mental and physical ailments.
