On June 24, Altamont Community Tradition celebrated the beginning of summer with its fourth annual Strawberry Social.

The weather was perfect, the strawberry shortcake was delicious, and the games and balloon art delighted the young and the young at heart.

It is almost Altamont Fair time! Mark your calendars for Tuesday, Aug. 12, to Sunday, Aug. 17.

New this year, “Brigade FMX” will showcase incredible freestyle motocross stunts with multiple shows on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday — motorcycles at their best!

To the Editor:

My name is Ahren. I think you should not close Altamont Elementary School because Altamont Elementary School is the perfect place to go. We even raised over $1,000 selling lemonade.

Plus the principal is great. We call him Mr. B. or Mr. Brabant. He is just wonderful.

GUILDERLAND — Edward C. Zyniecki Jr., who was born on Sept. 30, 1925, died on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014.  Leota (Lee) Zyniecki, who was born on April 12, 1928, died on Feb. 4, 2014, eleven days after her husband. They had been married for 65 years.

After casting a dire future for the village if the elementary school is closed, Mayor Gaughan said the board may soon investigate costs to create a village seal to place on the broad wall of the community room.

Before the roar that reached the rafters, before the caps of red and white were tossed with abandon and fell to the floor, before the beach balls surfed the crowd — there was Pomp and Circumstance, there were parents taking pictures, there were carefully chosen words spoken from the heart.

This Sunday, July 6, we celebrate Independence Day as our nation continues to struggle to find the balance between the modulation of fear and the maintenance of freedom. Fr. Scherck will exposit the given texts for 4 Pentecost .

GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland Town Band  will perform its second concert of the season on Thursday, July 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Guilderland Performing Arts Center in Tawasentha Park.  The program will feature Dan Ainspan as the recipient of the 2014 Donald E. Webster Scholarship.

The Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission is seeking citizen scientists to help monitor bird populations in the Pine Bush Preserve.

To the Editor:

On June 10, the Guilderland School District released a building capacity report, created by Dr. Paul Seversky. The report was created with the purpose of determining efficiency of space and teacher use in the district.
