The 13th day-long Victorian Holiday celebration in Altamont included four winter markets, a house tour of more than 200 people, and a visit from Santa.

On Monday, Dec. 8, I woke up thinking I’d better get prepared as the weatherman was predicting a Nor’easter storm with several inches of snow.

Just a few weeks ago, there were millions of people glued to the television watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The three-hour Macy's event is held in New York City starting at 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Thanksgiving Day, and has been televised nationally on NBC since 1952. This parade started in 1924.

St. John’s Lutheran Church at 140 Maple Ave. in Altamont will hold Sunday worship services at 8:30 and 11 a.m.

Sunday school is at 9:45 a.m. The 11 a.m. service on Dec. 21, will include the annual childrens’ Christmas pageant. This year’s pageant is entitled, “Just a Little Christmas.”

On Dec. 14, the New Salem Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary hosted its Seventh Annual Teddy Bear Tea with Mrs. Claus. Tea sandwiches, Christmas cookies, tea, and hot chocolate, all prepared by the auxiliary, were enjoyed with the 30 children and 31 adults in attendance.
