GUILDERLAND —  The Guilderland School District plans to remediate radon in the areas of its high school where recent readings were over state and federal safety levels. The odorless, colorless, and tasteless gas occurs naturally and, in high concentrations over a period of time, can cause lung cancer.

For two years, Samantha Dell-Acqua has studied theater and film technology through the Career and Technical Education program. She is interested in every aspect of theater, she said, but her first love is acting.

GUILDERLAND — Patricia Ann (née Toolan) Donohue died peacefully at home on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, surrounded by loving family members. “Her passing marked the conclusion of a rich life, highlighted by her deep faith and love for family,” her family wrote in a tribute.

Owen L. Murray

ALTAMONT — At his home, surrounded by his wife and children, Owen L. Murray of Altamont died on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019. A village trustee and volunteer firefighter for three-quarters of a century, Mr. Murray was, as his family put it, “an enthusiastic supporter of the village.” He was 90.

GUILDERLAND — Nancy L. Brittell who was, her family said, “profoundly proud of her 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren,” died peacefully Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, surrounded by her loving family at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. She was 76.

GUILDERLAND — Randall F. Hallenbeck, a Korean War veteran who worked as an accountant, died peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, surrounded by his loving family in Cumming, Georgia. He was 85.

“Aaron F. Pangburn and Peter J. Ogsbury are building ice houses for the purpose of further advancing their interests in the creamery this coming season,” noted the Jan. 5, 1889 Enterprise.

Last Saturday and Sunday, the Capital District saw Mother Nature dump a good foot of snow and some ice where it caused a State of Emergency on Sunday. 

The Guilderland girls’ basketball team won a Suburban Council matchup against Ballston Spa at home on Friday evening. The Dutch’s full-court pressure kept the Scotties off kilter all game long, giving Guilderland the victory, 69 to 48.

Most defendants surrender on the day of sentencing, said Cecilia Walsh, spokeswoman for the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.
