“EMS billing reduces the tax subsidy of EMS services …,” says Jay Tyler, director of Guilderland Emergency Medical Services. “While taxes still supply a portion of operational funding, ambulance fees collected from insurance companies mitigate the taxpayer burden.”

Once the new forestry law has some legs under it, with a committee appointed and a forestry plan drawn up and, at the same time, once the planning committee has presented its work to the town board, the rules will be clear to everyone.

On Tuesday, Jan. 24, the Guilderland Dutchmen hosted the Schenectady Patriots at Guilderland High School. The Dutch kept it close in the first half, but the Patriots used their speed in the second half to pull away. The Dutch fell 62 to 44.

On Friday, Jan. 20, the Guilderland Nordic ski team took to the course at Gore Mountain Ski Bowl in North Creek in the Johnstown/Guilderland Invitational. The boys finished fourth with 56 points while the girls finished in sixth with 61 points.

“Unfortunately he got caught in the middle of a bad situation,” said Guilderland town planner Kenneth Kovalchik of René Savoie having to halt his logging operation. “As for the operation, the logging roads were in good condition and the log processing areas were organized and well kept.”

GUILDERLAND — Cynthia L. Weldon, the longtime head cook at Guilderland High School, was a vivacious woman with many interests.

She died peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 18, surrounded by her loving family, after a short battle with cancer. She was 73.

A large warehouse for BBL Carlton caught fire on Friday afternoon and its roof collapsed.

An acrid odor filled the air as a Colonie police officer stopped traffic about a mile from the site on Kings Road. At 4:15 p.m., he said he'd been on duty for two hours.

The old idea of the American melting pot — in which public schools played a central role in shaping a single American ideal from the many cultures that have created the United States of America — has happily been replaced by a tossed salad metaphor: People from diverse places with equally diverse cultures have come together as one.
